It's Christmas time

Luke chapter two contains the most complete description of the miraculous virgin birth of the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. It begins in (v.1) with the historical record telling us that Caesar Augustus, the emperor of Rome, decreed that 'all the world should be taxed.' This decree demanded that all the known inhabited world, citizen by citizen of the Roman empire had to return to the city of their house and lineage to be registered for a taxation census. This called for both Joseph and Mary to return to Bethlehem, the city of David as they both were descendants of David, the most famous and revered king of Israel.
Although the story sounds serene and peaceful, the phrase 'in those days' (v.1) refers to the darkest days in Israel's history as they were at this point crushed under the heel of this tyrannical dictator Caesar Augustus. Even though there was 'peace' it was only due to the fact that there was no effort to liberate the people for they were bludgeoned into submission by the presence of an overbearing Roman army. No man, woman or child could resist their mighty authority and so 'in those days' meant the days of the darkest hour the world had ever seen.
In this time of extreme darkness and despair, when 'Cyrenius was governor (head of the military) of Syriaall went to be taxed , every one into his own city'(v.2,3). Although many people lived in the city of their lineage, there were thousands of others who had to travel a great distance to conform to this decree, but it was the hand of God moving in the life of Joseph and Mary, bringing them to Bethlehem, so that the prophecy of Micah 5:2,4 might be fulfilled: 'But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, tho' thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall He come forth unto Me that is to be Ruler of Israel whose goings forth have been of old from everlastingfor now shall He be great unto the ends of the earth.'
In reality the insignificant ones in the narrative of Luke 2 and in the ultimate history of the world are Caesar Augustus and Cyrenius, for the most miraculous and important birth ever was about to take place in Bethlehem, the birth of the Son of God, the Messiah of Israel, the Lord Jesus Christ! And this Roman taxation census decree would bring about the will of God as prophesied by Micah hundreds of years earlieryes, the Savior of the world would be born in Bethlehem!
From Nazareth to Bethlehem, a little over 75 miles, was a considerable journey of three to four days depending on the mode of transportation, but because Joseph and Mary were of the family of David, their trip was required for obedience to the Roman decree. However, their understanding of Who the Child was that Mary would bring forth could well have motivated them to make sure He was born in Bethlehem, Their likely knowledge of the Word of God and the prophecy of Micah might have been the major reason they traveled to Bethlehem with Mary's delivery so close to occurring.
The word 'espoused' in (v.5) literally means betrothed, promised in marriage, or engaged. She was 'great with child' used only here in the New Testament and simply means pregnant. 'And so it was that while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered' (v.6). Here the word 'delivered' means to bring forth or to bear fruit and it is used again in (v.7) translated 'brought forth' and in (v.11) the word translated 'born' is derived from the same Greek word.
'When the fullness of time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the Law.' (Galatians 4:4) Yes, God's time was now ready for His Son to be brought into the realm of man, to deliver all mankind from the penalty, power, and ultimately, the presence of sin if only man would receive Him as Savior. 'But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name. Which were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth' (John 1:12-14).
The Word, the Lord Jesus Christ, the Living Word, was made flesh. The incarnation of God Himself, the birth and life of the Lord Jesus Christ, are here being referred to by John in the opening chapter of his Gospel. 'And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn' (Luke 2:7). The most important event in the history of mankind has just been recorded in this simple yet most profound verse of Scripture. The first Coming of the Son of God is now set down in the annals of history. The birth of Jesus of Nazareth, the Savior, the Christ, the Messiah, the Lord of heaven and earth has just been accomplished and the whole world now recognizes this fact and marks the date of December 25th as Christmas!
However, Christmas as the 25th of December was not celebrated as that day until the 4th century A.D. The origin of the celebration is rooted in the heathen worship of the Babylonian's. The birth of the son of the queen of heaven was celebrated for centuries by the Babylonians on December 25th, long before Christ's birth, and the date was later adopted by the Catholic church at Rome in order to try to conciliate the heathen and bring them in to the 'church'. Even though the leaders of the true church attempted to keep the born-again believers from embracing the pagan celebration, eventually the pressures of this tradition took hold and Christmas, the 25th of December, was established even though it was obviously not the true date of the birth of Christ.
The text in Luke 2 also gives rise to suspicion as to the mid-winter date of December 25th. The shepherds were in fact living outdoors according to the word used in (v.8) for 'abiding in the field'. This word literally means 'to live outdoors' which would not have been the case at this time of year. Also, the journey made by Joseph and Mary surely would not have been attempted in the middle of winter for that time of year was not suitable for travel and the taxation census would not have required the people to do so. As to the severity of the winters in Israel, the Lord Himself said 'But pray that your flight be not in winter' (Matthew 24:20) indicating that travel during winter would not be desirable.
But, the date is really not the important issue. The fact that He was born of a virgin as prophesied by Isaiah, and lived a sinless life, and gave Himself a ransom for many, by shedding His blood and dying for the sins of the whole world, and then was resurrected from the dead, ascended to the Right Hand of the Father and now lives forevermore to make intercession for His own, yes, these are the important facts that can never be changed, for they are rooted and grounded in the eternal Word of God!

Happy Friendship day to one and all

Friendship day

The tradition of Celebrating Friendship Day began in 1935 when the US Congress decided to dedicate a day in the honor of friends. Though it is not known exactly what were the reasons that went into the making of this day, the retrospection of the world scenario of those times can lead us to an understanding. With the devastating effects of the First World War still showing and increasing hostilities, mistrust and hatred between countries providing the perfect conditions for another imminent battle, there was a greater need for friendship and camaraderie not only among nations but also among individuals.

Hence, the US Congress decided to designate the first Sunday of the month of August as Friendship Day and with a formal proclamation in 1935, officially declared the occasion a holiday dedicated in the honour of friends and friendship. Since then, celebration of National Friendship Day became an annual event. The lofty idea of honoring the beautiful relationship of friendship caught on with the people, particularly the youngsters all over the country, and in no time Friendship Day became a highly popular festival.

But the success of this wonderful occasion was not to be limited to the US alone. With time, several other countries followed suit in adopting the tradition of dedicating a day to the cause of friendship. The beautiful idea of having a day in the honor of friends was joyously taken over by several other countries across the world. With more and more nations joining in the celebrations, Friendship Day soon became International Friendship Day.

Today, Friendship Day is enthusiastically celebrated every year by many countries. The occasion is observed on the first Sunday of every August. The traditional celebrations include meeting with friends and exchanging of cards, flowers and gifts. Many social and cultural organizations also celebrate Friendship Day by hosting programs and get togethers. Special performances by rock bands are also organized in countries like the US to enhance the jubilations.

In 1997, the United Nations named Winnie - the Pooh, the famous cartoon character as the world's Ambassador of Friendship.

It is interesting to note how some associations observe Friendship Day with different customs, by giving the festival different names and holding it in times unlike that of the actual festival.
For example, National Friendship Day is held on the first Sunday in August; Women's Friendship Day is on the third Sunday in August; the third week of May is the Old Friends, New Friends Week and the whole of February is designated as the International Friendship Month.

These days, Friendship Day is celebrated with a lot of fanfare and great expenses. Just as in US and several other countries, the festival has been greatly commercialized.

Days before the festival, card and gift companies launch an extensive campaign to lure people into buying cards and gift items for their friends. Companies indulge in aggressive marketing to target youngsters, the main celebrators of festivals as these, and entice them into purchasing expensive articles for their pals. Restaurateurs too offer special discounts to make the most of the time. This marketing strategy has been severely criticized by many people and is a subject of debate every year. Many feel that such rampant commercialization has marred the very concept of Friendship Day and has turned it into a mere formality. Many on the other hand think that greater hype and hoopla around the occasion has helped to generate awareness about Friendship Day festival which was till recently a low-key affair (compared to occasions as "Mother's Day" and "Father's Day") and thus promote friendship and brotherhood.

The popular customs of Friendship Day includes handing over roses, especially the pink and yellow ones. The day is observed with great exhilaration and merriment, with friends throwing parties, gorging on lip-smacking dishes and drinking hard (be it at home or at restaurants that offer special discounts for this occasion).

A highly popular thing associated with the day is the well-known Friendship Band - the modern day token of friendship that friends gift to one another to form an everlasting bond. Friendship bands are favorite items for youngsters and are available in stores all over the country. Girls go in for friendship bracelets instead of the conventional friendship wristbands. Friendship Poems and Friendship Day Gifts are exchanged between best friends to renew the bond of friendship and express gratitude and love for each other. These are new ways of celebration of this day that the GenX has invented.

Since its inception in 1935, Friendship Day and Friendship Day celebrations have come a long way. But however much the ways of celebration have changed, the basic idea behind the occasion remains the same. Friendship Day remains the time when you acknowledge your friends' contribution in your life, express love for them, cherish their presence in your life and pay them a tribute.

Today, Friendship Day is being celebrated around the globe, across diverse cultures and social segments.

Happy Friendship Day to One and All.

Vein Identification

biometric-invention

As the has been improving day by day the security system has been enhancing in our day to day life. Here is an another technology innovation and enhanced technology of fingerprints.
Another technology innovation is the bio metric identification and security device known as Palm Secure.

It works by identifying the vein pattern in the palms of our hands.Similar to our fingerprints, vein patterns are unique to each individual. The purported advantages of this technology is that it is less expensive, easier to manage, and is more reliable than traditional methods of identification.

And the technology is still going on...................

Self-thinking robot can learn by itself via AI

Artificial Intelligence robot

How many of us look forward to the day where artificial intelligence (AI) rules the roost? Surely AI has already come a long way by now, with many things in our lives being automated in ways we never thought possible before, but there are always new glass ceilings to break, no? Enter this unique robot that is being developed by the Hasegawa Group at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, where it is capable of thinking, learning and acting all by itself, thanks to the power of AI.
The technology used is known as a self-replicating neural network, or SOINN (Self-Organizing Incremental Neural Network). Basically, it will help the robot think in the same manner as that of humans, especially when it makes an attempt at tasks that have never been performed before. To put it in a nutshell, this robot is capable of making educated guesses and decisions based on what it has gone through in the past as well as its knowledge database.
There was an experiment which involved the robot solving a problem, where it had to make the right move as well as in order. For example, the robot is told to pour a glass of water, ensure it becomes cold, and hand it to a particular person. The robot will then have to think on getting the task done after studying its surroundings, own situation and what it had gone through in the past.
“So far, robots, including industrial robots, have been able to do specific tasks quickly and accurately. But if their environment changes slightly, robots like that can’t respond. This robot remembers only basic knowledge, and it can apply that knowledge to its immediate situation. If it doesn’t know enough, it stops, and reacts by saying, “I can’t do this because I don’t know how.” So, if you teach this robot just the things that it can’t do, it incorporates those things as new knowledge, and it can solve the problem overall, by including that knowledge.”
The robot’s sensory information will comprise of visual, auditory, and tactile data, and SOINN will also be able to obtain information from other sources such as the almighty Internet and tap into different robots’ experiences and knowledge so that it eventually ends up smarter than ever before. Scary, huh, they might just solve problems such as world hunger and poverty eventually instead of bickering around like how politicians do.

Future Living

“All technology should be assumed guilty until proven innocent.”
“Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants. If we continue to develop our technology without wisdom or prudence, our servant may prove to be our executioner.”

How to Identify Safe websites on the Internet

Safe Websites
On the whole Internet, there are approximately more than 150 million active websites up and running. As a result, it often becomes a real challenge for the users to identify safe websites that are trustworthy and reputed. Have you ever wondered to know the reputation of a website before placing the order? Need to know whether a given website is child safe? Well, here are some of the ways to identify safe websites on the web.

1. WOT or Web Of Trust (www.mywot.com):

WOT is a great place to test the reputation of your favorite website. WOT gives real-time ratings for every website based on the feedback that it gets from millions of trustworthy users across the globe and trusted sources, such as phishing and malware blacklists. Each domain name is evaluated based on this data and ratings are applied to them accordingly. A snapshot of WOT ratings for gohacking.com is shown below:
WOT Ratings for Gohacking.com

As you observe in the above snapshot, the reputation of each website is shown in terms of 4 components where green means excellent, yellow warns users to be cautious and red indicates potential danger.
Trustworthiness signifies the overall safety of the website. A poor rating may indicate that the site is associated with threats like Internet scams, phishing, identity theft risks and malware. For more information on phishing, you may refer my other post on how to identify and avoid phishing scams.
Vendor reliability tells you whether a given site is safe for carrying out buy and sell transactions with it. An excellent rating indicates superior customer satisfaction while a poor rating indicates possible scam or bad shopping experience.

Child Safety indicates whether the content of a given site is appropriate for children. Site contents like sexual material, nudity and vulgarity will have a poor Child Safety rating.

Privacy indicates about “to what extent the site respects the privacy of it’s users and protects their personal identity and data”.
In most cases, the WOT ratings are found to be highly accurate. To check the reputation of any given website, just visit www.mywot.com type-in the address of your favorite website and click on “Check now”. This tool alone can tell you a lot about the reputation and safety level of a website. However, in addition to this, I am giving you another 3 handy tools to identify safe websites on the Web.
2. McCafee SiteAdvisor:
McCafee SiteAdvisor is a free tool that is available as a browser add-on. It adds safety ratings to your browser and search engine results. You can download it from www.siteadvisor.com.
3. StopBadware:
Using this tool, you can check whether a given site is said to have involved in malware activity in the past. To check this, go to http://www.stopbadware.org/home/reportsearch and enter the URL or domain name of a website and click on “Search Clearinghouse ”. If the search does not return any result, that means the site was never involved in any of the malware activity in the past.
4. Google Pagerank:
Google PageRank is another great tool to check the reputation and popularity of a website. The PageRank tool rates every webpage on a scale of 1 to 10 which indicates Google’s view of importance of the page. If a given website has a PageRank of less than 3, then it is said to be less popular among the other sites on the Internet.
However, PageRank will only tell you how much popular a given website is and has nothing to do with the safety level of a website. So, this tool alone cannot be used to evaluate a website’s safety and other factors.
